Party of 6 girls visited the Waterloo Bar & Kitchen on Saturday 27th September for a long lunch. Service was slow to warm up but once we had their attention our waiter was a gem! Food and wine where lovely, generous portions and nice a hot! The Restaurant was fairly busy when we arrived at 1.45pm and dinner service was starting when we left at 6pm but we where not hassled to leave at any point by the relaxed staff. We have planned to visit again in November!

The four of us enjoyed our dinner here. An interesting menu and the food was good. Friendly efficient waiters gave good service. It is just by the Old Vic which made it a useful venue for the theatre.

What a great find, close to Waterloo station and right by The Old Vic. Open kitchen serves simple food very well. Great wine list - superb starters - asparagus/ risotto; mains - the days special - lamb cutlets/ the best rib-eye I've had in a long while. Friendly, non-obtrusive but timely service. And you get to play spot the star. Will definitely return

We had a really lovely evening at Waterloo Bar & Kitchen. The service was attentive but in no way rushed. The selection of food and wine available was excellent, and all of a superb quality. I chose the smoked haddock for my main, which was perfectly complimented with a light mustard sauce. Portions were generous, to the extent that we sadly could not manage desserts! There is plenty of space between tables and enough background noise to allow the conversation to flow. A superb restaurant

An excellent evening at the Waterloo Bar and Kitchen. Even though we arrived 45 minutes earlier than our booking we were shown to our table immediately. Service was attentive but not overbearing; food was well cooked and beautifully presented, and the wine list had a pleasing selection from under £20 to around £50.

Waterloo Bar and Kitchen was a really pleasant client lunch. The food was lovely with a good menu, although it has remained unchanged for a couple of years now... The tall ceilings and widely spaced tables are perfect for noisy discussions and the waitress was very friendly and helpful. Will definitely be going back.

I went to the Waterloo Bar & Kitchen for a birthday dinner. I was so impressed at the helpfulness of David (the manager) and they really did everything to ensure that the evening went smoothly, comfortably and nicely. Very warm & lovely feel to the place and the beef wellington speciality was lovely (as was the apple crumble :)

Waterloo Bar and Kitchen - I would highly recommend this restaurant. The food was great and service fantastic. Really good value for money PLUS the music wasn't so loud that you couldn't hear each others sweet nothings :-)

Waterloo Bar & Kitchen was great - gorgeous food and we ended up spending all night in there eating and drinking. THe risotto and chocolate fondant were amazing so would definitely go again and take friends.

The Waterloo bar and kitchen was really quite exceptional. We mentioned previous to being seated that we had a show to catch in an hour at the Old Vic Theatre and we still managed three courses with perfect service throughout. The food was also excellent from start to finish... the chocolate fondant a must! Will definitely go again.

Went to Waterloo Bar & Kitchen before a 7.30pm performance at the Old Vic next door. Was very pleasantly surprised - it's cosy, with a nice buzz when the other tables fill up. The food was very nice, gastro-pub-type fare produced by the open(ish) kitchen in the corner - my beef wellington was beautiful. Sometimes a bit difficult to catch the waiters' attention when in a hurry, but that's a small gripe in what was a lovely start to an evening at the theatre. Imagine it's great for Sunday lunch.

Our choice of the Waterloo Bar & Kitchen was well rewarded with good food and service. We dined pre-theatre but even so the early evening ambience was fine. The food was well prepared, the portions just right to satisfy but not overfeed - the sea bass was particularly good. Well worth a try if you are visiting the South Bank

Waterloo Restaurants, particularly restaurants close to Waterloo Station have never had the best reputation so I was delighted to come across the Waterloo Bar and Kitchen. The food and wine and atmosphere and staff attitude were all fantastic. Take the time to try this Waterloo Restaurant. Easy to find as it is so near to the Old Vic Theatre. This restaurant will not disappoint. We really had a brilliant time, I could not believe how quickly 4 hours flew by and the train was only 2 minutes away! I am so happy that we found this decent Waterloo Restaurant

Dinner here at the Waterloo Bar & KItchen after a jolly show near at the Young Vic and it was exactly what we wanted. Slightly smarter than when I last visited - white table cloths - but just as friendly and good comforting food - e.g. confit of duck and red cabbage beautifully done also a satisfying smoked haddock, poached egg and mustard hollaindaise.

This was our first visit to the Waterloo Bar & Kitchen and thoroughly enjoyable. The food was excellent, the service quick (perfect as we were on our way to the Old Vic for a show), and the staff very courteous and efficient. My scallops were perfectly prepared and the poached pears, gorgeous. My husband was equally pleased with his meal. We'll definitely be back.

This restaurant is absolutely perfect for pre-theatre or post theatre at the Old Vic. They are literally next door to the Old Vic Theatre. It is simple but lovely food served quickly by friendly staff, who understand that you need to make the Theatre. You could not find a restaurant as near to the Old Vic and it is amazing that it is such a nice experience. I promised the Staff that I would write a review but I guess the fact that it was very, very busy and that Kevin Spacey, himself! was having something to eat is a pretty good endorsement.

This is a great Waterloo Restaurant. Coming from Canary Wharf, I have two choices as I get off the Jubilee Line. Turn left after the escalators and get something to eat and drink at the Waterloo Bar and Kitchen or turn right and get on another train to Wimbledon. Unfortunately for Bank Account and Liver, I turn left too much. It is a lovely down-to-earth restaurant that is welcoming and friendly to all. Good Food + Good Drink Well Done! On St Valentines evening, I was looking for a pre-theatre dinner for two near the Old Vic. I Googled and found this place, and we had an early meal at 6.30. Just fab, from start to finish. Good buzz with lots of theatre-goers doing the same as us, good choice on the menu .... and even when I said I wanted something that wasn't on it (steak and chips) the polite, smiling waiter (manager?) sorted it out for me with the chef. Perfect place to eat before going to the Old Vic., and absolutely no hesitation in recommending it. I guess the restaurants close to Waterloo Station do not need to try very hard as the volume of customers in the area will always guarantee good business. However I have found a Waterloo Restaurant that is a little gem. The Waterloo Bar and Kitchen is a lovely little restaurant next door to the old vic theatre. From the outside it looks a little untidy but the atmosphere is great inside. The staff seem genuinely keen to provide quality service. The food is relatively simple but it really is very nice and reasonably priced. The Wine List is fantastic. I am delighted to have found a Waterloo restaurant that hits the spot. SJ 04/03/07 - Had the Sunday roast which was excellent. Good atmosphere and the staff very helpful. Good value for money, and would go again.

HS 02/03/07 - Waterloo Bar and Kitchen was just excellent - I highly recommend it

RG 25/02/07 - Late Sunday Lunch close to Waterloo - restaurant only half full but probably an advantage as could be noisy. Outstanding mains courses- Guinea Foul with wild mushrooms and Sea Bass both cooked to perfection. Deserts good, although crumble needed further heating as cold in middle. Good choice of wines by the glass, and overall very reasonable - definitely will return!

LB 24/02/07 - This is a lovely place, just a very short walk from Waterloo station so an ideal meeting place. The service was welcoming and attentive, the food is relaxed "gastro-pub" style - fish cakes, sausage and mash and so on, but they also have daily specials. The kitchen is in full view of the restaurant, which I like. I would definitely return.

ZB 21/02/07 - I was really impressed with the Waterloo Bar and Kitchen and will definitely go back. The exterior is not very inviting, which is a shame as this is a lovely restaurant with great food and atmosphere, a good wine list and really friendly staff. It's very good value as well. Would highly recommend.

RS 17/02/07 - As per previous reviews, the outside of the Waterloo Bar & Grill belies its pleasant interior. The food was excellent, and the service quick enough to get us to the Young Vic by 7.30pm, despite not ordering till 6.50pm. Highly recommended.

Next door to the Old Vic, the Waterloo Bar and Kitchen invariably feeds and waters theatre fans of an evening, and by day looks after local office workers and tourists. It does a good job of providing the cosy ambience of a bistro combined with the fun of an open kitchen. Milton Steiger makes everything - from the chicken liver pate to the trio of fishcakes, and passion fruit mousse – himself. And it shows in everyone's appetite – plates are soon emptied! The menu changes every month, and every week you're offered weekly specials from around the world. Brunch is served all day, and good roasts on a Sunday. Very friendly service.

Waterloo Bar and Kitchen's basement private room is quickly becoming a popular venue for birthdays and leaving dos, as well as meetings hosted by local businesses who appreciate the convenience of the location. It accommodates around 30 for a sit-down meal, and 50+ for drinks, canapés and/or a buffet. It has its own a bar, a projector screen and internet access. You're most welcome to play your own music or organise a DJ. Tailor-made party menus start at just £8 a head. Set menus from £14.95. A late license can be arranged if at least a month's notice is given. Open seven days a week.

Went to this restaurant for the first time early on Saturday evening with my wife and 2 friends. We were all very impressed. The ambiance was perfect and the food was a revelation. We all commented on just how good everything was. The open plan kitchen is a very good idea, as you can watch your food being prepared.
We make a hobby of visiting various restaurants in the home counties and this will definitely be on our places to revisit list.

I have now used the Waterloo Bar and Kitchen about 6 times. I am a member of the Old Vic Theatre and regularly see the productions. The restaurant is slap bang next door to the theatre; the convenience was previously my only reason for going there.

However, I would now recommend this restaurant to anyone, whether going to the Theatre or not. The new management are incredibly friendly and the food is getting better and better.

My wife also loves it as there are 4 different fish options for main course and 2 different vegetarian ones. (I had the steak myself, cooked 'blue')

The look may be more pub than gastro – there is only a sprinkling of tablecloth-laden tables in this dark-wood dining room – but the food is a step up from average. Emerging from the open-plan kitchen are adventurous starters such as scallops wrapped in Parma ham with salsa verde or seared foie gras with pear chutney & more down-to-earth mains of tuna niçoise, lamb cutlets with gratin potato or chicken stuffed with pancetta & mozzarella. Large booths fit the bill for bigger parties & this is a popular spot for weekend brunches. Feel free to just have a pint if your stomach’s not rumbling.
